Day 1330

1/ Russia, China, and Iran have all recently attempted to hack people and organizations involved in the 2020 presidential election. An investigation by Microsoft’s cybersecurity experts concluded that it’s the same Russian military unit that oversaw the “hack and leak” campaign of Democratic emails during the 2016 presidential election. The report said the Russian group had targeted more than 200 organizations that “are directly or indirectly affiliated with the upcoming U.S. election.” Chinese hackers targeted Biden’s campaign and at least one person formerly associated with the Trump administration, while Iranian hackers tried to log into the accounts of Trump administration officials and Trump campaign staff. The findings come a day after a whistleblower claimed that the White House and the Department of Homeland Security had tried to “censor or manipulate” intelligence on Russia’s interference because it “made the president look bad,” and instructed government analysts to focus on interference by China and Iran. Looks like Judge Sullivan has a green light to still sentence Michael Flynn, per former trial judge John Gleeson. Gleeson is calling what it is…‘corrupt,’ not to sentence someone who pleads guilty.

A former federal judge said in a court filing that the Justice Department’s unusual effort to dismiss its prosecution of former national security advisor Michael Flynn seems like a “corrupt and politically motivated favor” done after pressure by President Donald Trump.

John Gleeson, a former trial judge and prosecutor, was named by U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan to argue against the department’s stance in the high-profile case in Washington. Critics have accused the department and Attorney General William Barr of going light on Flynn, a Trump ally who twice pleaded guilty in the case to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia’s former ambassador in Washington.

In a court filing, Gleeson said the department should not be allowed to drop the case. The department’s effort to do so was a “corrupt and politically motivated favor unworthy of our justice system,” Gleeson added.

The department unsuccessfully sought to force Sullivan to drop the charges, but an appeals court allowed the judge to consider the matter further.

Sidney Powell, a lawyer for Flynn, called Gleeson’s filing a “smear” that ignored evidence that the Flynn prosecution “was corrupt from its inception.”
