The CDC issued a health advisory on Saturday warning against use of non-pharmaceutical chloroquine phosphate and hydroxychloroquine.

Trump extends virus guidelines, braces US for big death toll
WASHINGTON (AP) ā Bracing the nation for a death toll that could exceed 100,000 people, President Donald Trump on Sunday extended restrictive social distancing guidelines through April, bowing to public-health experts who presented him with even more dire projections for the expanding coronavirus pandemic.
It was a stark shift in tone by the president, who only days ago mused about the country reopening in a few weeks. From the Rose Garden, he said his Easter revival hopes had only been āaspirational.ā
The initial 15-day period of social distancing urged by the federal government expires Monday and Trump had expressed interest in relaxing the national guidelines at least in parts of the country less afflicted by the pandemic. He instead decided to extend them through April 30, a tacit acknowledgment heād been too optimistic. Many states and local governments have stiffer controls in place on mobility and gatherings.
Trumpās impulse to reopen the country met a sober reality check Sunday from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the governmentās top infectious disease expert, who said the U.S. could experience more than 100,000 deaths and millions of infections from the pandemic. That warning hardened a recognition in Washington that the struggle against the coronavirus will not be resolved quickly even as Trump expressed a longing for normalcy.
āI want our life back again,ā the president told reporters in the Rose Garden.
Trump, who has largely avoided talk of potential death and infection rates, cited projection models that said potentially 2.2 million people or more could have died had social distancing measures not been put in place. And he said the country would be doing well if it ācan holdā the number of deaths ādown to 100,000.ā He said the best case for the country would be for the death rate to peak in about two weeks.
āItās a horrible number,ā Trump said, but added, āWe all together have done a very good job.ā
and it directly relates to this number of between 100K to 200K deaths possibly expected.

Trump lashes out at Alcindor, demands she "be nice"
Oliver Darcy writes: Amid a global pandemic killing thousands of Americans, Trump disparaged CNN, NYT, and PBS at his press conference on Sunday, while saving his praise for a fringe right-wing network that has a history of peddling conspiracy theories.
Trump lashed out at PBS correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and said she should be friendlier toward him. Trumpās outburst came after Alcindor noted that Trump had previously told Sean Hannity he was not sure if states would actually need the total number of ventilators they have requested.
"Why donāt you act a little more positive?" Trump asked. He added, āBe nice. Donāt be threatening. Be nice.ā Alcindor pushed back, noting she was effectively repeating what he had previously told Hannity, but Trump wasnāt having it. When Alcindor came to ask her second Q, Trump cut her off and the microphone was taken away from herā¦
Diamond gives back the mic
Darcy continues: When Trump called on him later in the press conference, CNNās Jeremy Diamond instead handed Alcindor the mic so that she could ask her second question**. Alcindor asked which health experts Trump had spoken to that had said more people could die from an economic recession than the virus. Trump didnāt directly answer.**
After the press conference, Alcindor tweeted, "Iām not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job. My take: Be steady. Stay focused. Remember your purpose. And, always press forward."
"These are direct quotes, sir."
Darcy adds: When Diamond got a chance to ask his question, he pressed Trump on last Friday comments about not phoning governors who are not āappreciative.ā Trump accused Diamond of lying and taking him out of context, but Diamond pointed out that he was reading ādirect quotes.ā As Daniel Dale put it, āReporters read Trump quote back to him, Trump denies and attacks.ā Check out Daleās fact-check here, titled āTrump falsely denies saying two things he said last weekā¦ā

Darcy sends one more note: At the presser, Trump lavished praised on a personality from the far-right cable channel One America News . "Boy thatās a nice question," Trump said. āThank you very much.ā When Trump called on her for a second time, she bizarrely asked the same question againā¦ which is quite revealing, when you think about itā¦
When messaging about what this Coronavirus gets mangled in politically charged news and personal belief. WTF
Congregants of megachurches in Louisiana, Ohio and Florida attended services in defiance of social distancing orders on Sunday morning, even as politicians and doctors took to weekly news shows to warn of coronavirusās spread in the U.S.
In Louisiana, which has seen a spike in cases and has a shelter-in-place order, the Life Tabernacle Church in the town of Central held services at 10 a.m. More than 550 parishioners attended, about half as many as the week before, pastor Tony Spell told a local news reporter.
His stateās governor raised alarms Sunday that hospitals in nearby New Orleans could run out of capacity for breathing machines within a week as the stateās coronavirus death toll has climbed to the fourth-highest in the country. āWeāre on a trajectory right now where weāll not be able to deliver the care that people need when they need it,ā Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said on CBSās āFace the Nation.ā Edwards, who has limited public gatherings to 50 or under, last week urged āall faith leaders to heed this directiveā
On CNNās āState of the Union,ā National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci warned that the U.S. could see 100,000 to 200,000 deaths from the virus, a stark counterpoint to discussions about whether to restart parts of the U.S. economy that have been on shutdown.
Pastor Spell told local news outlet NBC15 earlier this month that he didnāt believe his congregation was in danger of infection. āItās not a concern,ā he said. āThe virus, we believe, is politically motivated. We hold our religious rights dear and we are going to assemble no matter what someone says.ā The church did not respond to request for comment.
The River Church in Tampa, Florida, also held services this Sunday. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne posted a livestream of the services on YouTube, showing the sizable crowd. Howard-Browne said attendees were practicing āsocial distancing, or whateverā though the crowd appeared to be dense.
He must be made to stand trial.

Doctors And Nurses Say More People Are Dying Of COVID-19 In The US Than We Know

Anyone attending church during this time & in defiance of social distancing should have their names put on a list which goes to the very END of the line when it comes to ventilators neededā¦just saying. I donāt care if they think their belief will save them, or if theyāre just in a āhurry to meet their makerā but they have no right to risk the health of others nor to take their place when it comes to needing medical help.

Researchers Have Found a Way to Sterilize and Reuse Face Masks During Pandemic
https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/researchers-can-now-sterilize-and-reuse-masks-during-pandemic/
Facing a critical shortage of N95 face masks that block the coronavirus, researchers from Duke Health research and clinical teams in North Carolina have confirmed a way to use existing decontamination methods to clean and reuse the masks.
The process uses specialized equipment to aerosolize hydrogen peroxide, which permeates the layers of the mask to kills germs, including viruses, without degrading the mask material.
āThis is a decontamination technology and method weāve used for years in our biocontainment laboratory,ā said Scott Alderman, associate director of the Duke Regional Biocontainment Laboratory.
āWe had never considered needing it for something like face masks. But weāve now proven that it works and will begin using the technology immediately in all three Duke Health hospitals,ā said Dr. Matthew Stiegel, director of the Occupational and Environmental safety Office.

Early into the pandemic, signs that internal communications and actions (requests for funds) went unattended between Cabinet Secretary Azar and and OMB member
On Feb. 5, with fewer than a dozen confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the United States but tens of thousands around the globe, a shouting match broke out in the White House Situation Room between Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and an Office of Management and Budget official, according to three people aware of the outburst.
Azar had asked OMB that morning for $2 billion to buy respirator masks and other supplies for a depleted federal stockpile of emergency medical equipment, according to individuals familiar with the request, who spoke on the condition of anonymity about internal discussions.
The previously unreported argument turned on the request and on the budget officialās accusation that Azar had improperly lobbied Capitol Hill for money for the repository, which Azar denied, the individuals said.
The $2 billion request from HHS was cut to $500 million when the White House eventually sent Congress a supplemental budget request weeks later. White House budget officials now say the relief package enacted Friday secured $16 billion for the Strategic National Stockpile, more money than HHS had asked for.
