What the media is saying about T’s actions now during today’s press conference when T tells us we are in shut down until April 30th. He’s in his bullying mode, and denying things he has said.

No words.:anguished:

Haberman’s reporting

"I think the president is doing very little other than watching media coverage right now," the NYT’s Maggie Haberman told me on Sunday’s “Reliable Sources.”

“He doesn’t have the rallies for the feedback. He’s just watching television and having meetings about this issue, and I think he’s more sensitive to negative coverage than he normally is… so what he’s doing is lashing out.”

–> The bottom line re: his recent spate of anti-media attacks: "He doesn’t want people to believe real time accounts that they are seeing…"

– The New Yorker editor David Remnick said Trump’s “lies,” narcissism, and “lack of empathy” have “led to disaster. Has led to delay. And this will be – and I think history will prove this – this will be something that’s paid in human lives. And that’s an enormous tragedy…”

Trump lashes out at Alcindor, demands she "be nice"

Oliver Darcy writes: Amid a global pandemic killing thousands of Americans, Trump disparaged CNN, NYT, and PBS at his press conference on Sunday, while saving his praise for a fringe right-wing network that has a history of peddling conspiracy theories.

Trump lashed out at PBS correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and said she should be friendlier toward him. Trump’s outburst came after Alcindor noted that Trump had previously told Sean Hannity he was not sure if states would actually need the total number of ventilators they have requested.

"Why don’t you act a little more positive?" Trump asked. He added, “Be nice. Don’t be threatening. Be nice.” Alcindor pushed back, noting she was effectively repeating what he had previously told Hannity, but Trump wasn’t having it. When Alcindor came to ask her second Q, Trump cut her off and the microphone was taken away from her…

Diamond gives back the mic

Darcy continues: When Trump called on him later in the press conference, CNN’s Jeremy Diamond instead handed Alcindor the mic so that she could ask her second question**. Alcindor asked which health experts Trump had spoken to that had said more people could die from an economic recession than the virus. Trump didn’t directly answer.**

After the press conference, Alcindor tweeted, "I’m not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job. My take: Be steady. Stay focused. Remember your purpose. And, always press forward."

"These are direct quotes, sir."

Darcy adds: When Diamond got a chance to ask his question, he pressed Trump on last Friday comments about not phoning governors who are not “appreciative.” Trump accused Diamond of lying and taking him out of context, but Diamond pointed out that he was reading “direct quotes.” As Daniel Dale put it, “Reporters read Trump quote back to him, Trump denies and attacks.” Check out Dale’s fact-check here, titled “Trump falsely denies saying two things he said last week…”

Trump praises OANN

Darcy sends one more note: At the presser, Trump lavished praised on a personality from the far-right cable channel One America News . The attendee asked Trump for a response to networks that are wary of airing his lengthy press conferences in full. "Boy that’s a nice question," Trump said. “Thank you very much.” When Trump called on her for a second time, she bizarrely asked the same question again… which is quite revealing, when you think about it…

When messaging about what this Coronavirus gets mangled in politically charged news and personal belief. WTF

Congregants of megachurches in Louisiana, Ohio and Florida attended services in defiance of social distancing orders on Sunday morning, even as politicians and doctors took to weekly news shows to warn of coronavirus’s spread in the U.S.

In Louisiana, which has seen a spike in cases and has a shelter-in-place order, the Life Tabernacle Church in the town of Central held services at 10 a.m. More than 550 parishioners attended, about half as many as the week before, pastor Tony Spell told a local news reporter.

His state’s governor raised alarms Sunday that hospitals in nearby New Orleans could run out of capacity for breathing machines within a week as the state’s coronavirus death toll has climbed to the fourth-highest in the country. “We’re on a trajectory right now where we’ll not be able to deliver the care that people need when they need it,” Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Edwards, who has limited public gatherings to 50 or under, last week urged “all faith leaders to heed this directive”

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci warned that the U.S. could see 100,000 to 200,000 deaths from the virus, a stark counterpoint to discussions about whether to restart parts of the U.S. economy that have been on shutdown.

Pastor Spell told local news outlet NBC15 earlier this month that he didn’t believe his congregation was in danger of infection. “It’s not a concern,” he said. “The virus, we believe, is politically motivated. We hold our religious rights dear and we are going to assemble no matter what someone says.” The church did not respond to request for comment.

The River Church in Tampa, Florida, also held services this Sunday. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne posted a livestream of the services on YouTube, showing the sizable crowd. Howard-Browne said attendees were practicing “social distancing, or whatever” though the crowd appeared to be dense.

Anyone attending church during this time & in defiance of social distancing should have their names put on a list which goes to the very END of the line when it comes to ventilators needed…just saying. I don’t care if they think their belief will save them, or if they’re just in a “hurry to meet their maker” but they have no right to risk the health of others nor to take their place when it comes to needing medical help.

Speaking of things we ought NOT to do now is SINGING in groups, church or otherwise. This is sad, but as someone who enjoys singing, I would have predicted this would be a great way to spread a virus.

Researchers Have Found a Way to Sterilize and Reuse Face Masks During Pandemic

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/researchers-can-now-sterilize-and-reuse-masks-during-pandemic/

Facing a critical shortage of N95 face masks that block the coronavirus, researchers from Duke Health research and clinical teams in North Carolina have confirmed a way to use existing decontamination methods to clean and reuse the masks.

The process uses specialized equipment to aerosolize hydrogen peroxide, which permeates the layers of the mask to kills germs, including viruses, without degrading the mask material.

“This is a decontamination technology and method we’ve used for years in our biocontainment laboratory,” said Scott Alderman, associate director of the Duke Regional Biocontainment Laboratory.

“We had never considered needing it for something like face masks. But we’ve now proven that it works and will begin using the technology immediately in all three Duke Health hospitals,” said Dr. Matthew Stiegel, director of the Occupational and Environmental safety Office.

Early into the pandemic, signs that internal communications and actions (requests for funds) went unattended between Cabinet Secretary Azar and and OMB member

On Feb. 5, with fewer than a dozen confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the United States but tens of thousands around the globe, a shouting match broke out in the White House Situation Room between Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and an Office of Management and Budget official, according to three people aware of the outburst.

Azar had asked OMB that morning for $2 billion to buy respirator masks and other supplies for a depleted federal stockpile of emergency medical equipment, according to individuals familiar with the request, who spoke on the condition of anonymity about internal discussions.

The previously unreported argument turned on the request and on the budget official’s accusation that Azar had improperly lobbied Capitol Hill for money for the repository, which Azar denied, the individuals said.

The $2 billion request from HHS was cut to $500 million when the White House eventually sent Congress a supplemental budget request weeks later. White House budget officials now say the relief package enacted Friday secured $16 billion for the Strategic National Stockpile, more money than HHS had asked for.

Can the U.S. Flatten the Curve When it Comes to Coronavirus? | Time

Every day, the number of Americans confirmed as infected by the virus that causes COVID-19 is higher than the day before. Such is the brutality of exponential growth: Not only does the raw number of COVID-19 cases grow, the rate at which it grows increases as well.

The following charts show how six nations, including the U.S., have either managed to stem the tide of the novel coronavirus, or are poised for an explosive growth in cases. TIME will update these charts daily.

Here’s another plea from NYC, from the Mayor de Blasio for more steady Federal support…straight answers too please.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday pleaded with the Trump administration for more medical supplies to battle the coronavirus, saying the death toll in the city, a key epicenter of the outbreak, would rise if help did not arrive by Sunday.

With infections and deaths mounting across the country and the economy at a virtual standstill, de Blasio joined a growing chorus of officials in expressing frustration at Washington’s handling of the crisis.

De Blasio spoke as a 1,000-bed U.S. Navy hospital ship arrived in New York Harbor and docked on Manhattan’s west side after departing Norfolk, Virginia. The USNS Comfort will treat non-coronavirus patients, including those who require surgery and critical care, the Navy said in a news release.

If we don’t get more consistent federal help in a growing crisis, there’s a danger we start to lose lives that could have been saved," the New York City mayor said in an interview with CNN. "Sunday is D-Day, we need help by Sunday.

Hospitals in New York have been overrun with patients suffering from COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the virus. New York state accounts for almost half of the country’s 141,883 cases and more than a third of its 2,477 deaths, according to a Reuters tally. The United States has the most cases in the world.(Graphic: https://tmsnrt.rs/2w7hX9T)
