Day 900

1/ New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill allowing congressional committees to access Trump's New York state tax returns. The bill requires state tax officials to release the state returns for any "specified and legitimate legislative purpose" on the request of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, or the Joint Committee on Taxation. Trump's personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow, called the bill "more presidential harassment." The House Ways and Means Committee has unsuccessfully tried to access six years of Trump's personal and business tax returns. The House sued the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service last week to try to force them to release the returns. (New York Times / NBC News)

According to AG William Barr, Trump is going to entirely defy the Supreme Court verdict and add the citizenship question to the 2020 Census anyway!

Barr is also busy attacking the ACA and Mueller and, if that wasn’t enough, there’s THIS madness:

Former DOJ Lawyer Says Census Drama Put Attorneys in “Completely Untenable” Position

The government is abruptly switching legal teams after reversing course on the citizenship question.

Trump Lied to the Supreme Court, and Four Justices Don’t Care

The White House insisted allegations that it wanted to add a citizenship question to the survey for political reasons were conspiracy theories, right up until the moment the president confirmed them.

It’s interesting to note this coming from the DOJ.

Federal prosecutors have intensified their wide-ranging federal investigation into Elliott Broidy, a top fund-raiser for President Trump, signaling the Justice Department’s continued interest in questions about foreign influence on the administration.

In recent months, federal authorities have searched Mr. Broidy’s Southern California office and subpoenaed records related to him from a onetime business partner and from Mr. Trump’s inaugural committee. They have reportedly asked the authorities in Romania for assistance investigating associates with whom Mr. Broidy worked to win military intelligence contracts potentially worth as much as $64 million.

They have also charged four people who worked with Mr. Broidy on plans to influence the administration, including on behalf of interests in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. While the charges against three of his associates were unrelated to their work with Mr. Broidy, most have been asked about their relationships with him, according to several people familiar with the investigation.

6/ Trump said he wants members of the press to “go in and see” inside the “beautifully run” migrant detention centers Student of history that he isn’t, he’s doing the same thing the Germans did to show the world Treblinka was a very nice place to be. Treblinka was a concentration camp. Many children died there.

Even for Trump, this is beyond childish, petty, and inane.

Yahoo News reporting that the Seth Rich story was a planted by Russian Intelligence.

https://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-the-true-origins-of-the-seth-rich-conspiracy-a-yahoo-news-investigation-100000831.html

In the summer of 2016, Russian intelligence agents secretly planted a fake report claiming that Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was gunned down by a squad of assassins working for Hillary Clinton, giving rise to a notorious conspiracy theory that captivated conservative activists and was later promoted from inside President Trump’s White House, a Yahoo News investigation has found.

Russia’s foreign intelligence service, known as the SVR, first circulated a phony “bulletin” — disguised to read as a real intelligence report —about the alleged murder of the former DNC staffer on July 13, 2016, according to the U.S. federal prosecutor who was in charge of the Rich case. That was just three days after Rich, 27, was killed in what police believed was a botched robbery while walking home to his group house in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C., about 30 blocks north of the Capitol.

Oh my…wtf

NEW ORLEANS — A federal appeals court panel will hear arguments Tuesday on whether a federal judge in Texas was correct in striking down the Affordable Care Act, a case with enormous stakes not only for millions of people who gained health insurance through the law but for the political futures of President Trump and other candidates in the 2020 elections.

The case, which could make its way to the Supreme Court ahead of those elections, threatens insurance protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions and many other sweeping changes the 2010 law has made throughout the health care system.

It was filed by a group of Republican governors and attorneys general against the federal government, which carries out the law.But the Trump administration refused to defend the full law in court and this spring said it agreed with the ruling that the law’s requirement for people to buy insurance was unconstitutional, and that as a result, the entire law must be dismantled.

That has left a group of 21 states with Democratic attorneys general to intervene to defend the law, along with the House of Representatives, which entered the case after Democrats won control of the chamber last fall.

O. M. G. This is just appalling. Unbelievable. It’s like he’s a kindergartner. How embarrassing for our country. But far more importantly, how damaging.

First, Britain is one of our most important allies. We are stronger when the U.K. stands with us. What happens when there is an international emergency and we need to call upon them to send their troops into peril?

And, second, the entire world is laughing at us – our credibility is shot – our word is dirt – our reputation is in the toilet – when our international standing is lowered, we are diminished as a nation. It’s understandable that many countries would now rather negotiate, both economically and militarily, with more mature and dignified nations such as Russia and China.

I swear Trump is doing Putin’s bidding by trashing our country. Shame on the Republicans in Congress and the 42% of Americans who continue to prop up this infantile, destructive man.

Pretty much. Prior to WWII we were becoming increasingly isolationist. WWII thrust us out into the world and made us the nation we are now. And Donnie is tearing that ALL down.

One of the two sources said Horowitz’s investigators appear to have found Steele’s information sufficiently credible to have to extend the investigation. Its completion date is now unclear.

In other, more frightening news, Trump just confirmed via tweet he’s going to try to force the citizenship question onto the census.
