Day 939

(Matt Kiser) #1

1/ The impact of Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which Trump called "the biggest reform of all time" to the tax code, has not generated an increase in overall economic growth, business investment, or worker pay. Half of corporate chief financial officers expect the economy to shrink by the second quarter of 2020 with two-thirds expecting a recession by the end of next year. Despite an uptick in the second quarter of 2018, growth declined the following two quarters to end up at 2.9% for the year – falling short of the promised 3% growth. (CNBC)

U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs denying to cover bills for emergency care

According to a new report by the VA’s Office of Inspector General, during just one six-month period, more than 17,000 veterans were slapped with $53.3 million in medical bills the government should have covered. The VA tells NBC News they are reviewing the claims in the report for possible payment to veterans.

Thanks for this. Very revealing!

Here’s what the House Republican Conference (responsible for directing Republican strategies in Congress) told Republican Reps to pass on to their constituents:

“White nationalism and racism are pure evil and cannot be tolerated in any form. We also can’t excuse violence from the left such as the El Paso shooter, the recent Colorado shooters, the Congressional baseball shooter, Congresswoman Giffords’ shooter and Antifa."

That’s a flat out lie. The El Paso shooter was not a leftist, but a white nationalist. Republicans claim their House Conference simply made a “mistake” when they said the El Paso shooting was by a leftist. But I see no mention that the conference published a corrected version of the letter. They just let the “mistake” ride. In fact, the head of the conference would not even respond to the Tampa Bay Times reporter who broke the story:

The office of Rep. Liz Cheney, the Wyoming lawmaker who chairs the Republican conference, did not respond to a request for comment.

At here’s the real picture – an infographic from the article:

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security independently reached the same conclusion that white supremacists are overwhelmingly responsible for domestic terror attacks. Their statistics, focusing on 2018, are included in this post from a few days ago.
